(IWP is on official hiatus until further notice)
I have survived 13 years as the founder and executive producer for The Instrumental Project (IWP). It’s not always been easy, but it has been well worth the investment of time and resources. In spite of many, many, many challenges, IWP has made a significant contribution to the collective history of women in jazz.
We are currently structured as a community-based, volunteer led and supported program. 2013 was devoted to regrouping and recruiting additional volunteers to support our referral network. We continue to connect women instrumentalists with band/musician-for-hire opportunities as we are approached by nonprofits and other groups seeking live music for their fundraising and community events. This referral service is provided as a free service, with 100% of performance fees paid directly to musicians/bands by the contracting organization. IWP is happy to serve as a bridge between musicians and paying performances.
The Instrumental Women Project (IWP) is established to educate the public about the historic and ongoing role of women in jazz, as instrumentalists. IWP accomplishes this by creating and sponsoring live performances, exhibits, presentations and related multimedia projects.
