Leslie Baker ~ Bassist – Composer – Arranger - Bandleader
Leslie began studying music at age 6 and has performed professionally since age 12. Leslie exudes expressive technique and confidence on a wide variety of acoustic and electric basses, She has toured with a number of artists, but maintains a very busy schedule in the L.A. area on club gigs and recordings. Her versatility is reflected in her local and regional theater, jazz, and blues performances where she shared the bandstand with Buddy Collett, Al Aarons, Barbara Morrison, Phil Wright, Floyd Dixon, Harmonica “Fats”, Willie Dixon, Guitar Shorty and others.
Festival performances are numerous including the Long Beach Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Du Maurier Festial Canada, Las Vegas Blues Festival and others. Recording credits include The Jazz Caravan, Wake Up and Live and numerous documentary soundtracks, including “Adams Family Values:, Nel Carter’s “Brotherly Love” TV soundtrack and the Salt “n” Pepa’s music for the “Bulletproof” movie. She was also the bass player in the Tango band for the “Adams Family Values” movie.
This dynamic bassist composes and arranges music for her own band, ASKEW. Her debut CD, “ASKEW”, includes a number of jazz standards and several originals compositions from Leslie and the band members. It has received considerable airplay on KKJZ (88.1 FM) and on several radio stations in Europe.
Her second CD, “ASKEW II” is also being met with an enthusiastic reception by jazz fans.
