Phyllis Battle - < IW Artistic Director 2000 ~ 2001 ~ 2002 > has staked her claim among LA’s elite jazz vocalists. She toured with the 5th Dimension for 16 years (1985 to 2002). Her 1996, debut CD, "Night Flight", was co-produced by Cedar Walton and the late, legendary jazz drummer, Billy Higgins. A number of the songs remain popular selections on KKJZ, 88.1FM, including "You're a Classic", which was co-written by Phyllis and composer, Nadine McKenna. Phyllis has toured the world with such greats as Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Rita Coolidge, and Donna Summers. Her studio roster has included sessions with Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Bernard Ighner, David Peaston and the S.O.S. Band. Her talent for acting was apparent in her tours to Houston and Miami with The 5th Dimension to perform in the Fats Waller musical, "Ain't MisBehavin". She’s kept busy performing at the Long Beach Jazz Festival, Jazz at Drew, and produced LA’s first annual Jazzteenth Celebration. Phyllis continues to keep a busy schedule performing, teaching vocal lessons and serving as the executive director of the P.E.B. Foundation.
