Robyn Javier took up the trombone in high school and has been making the scene ever since. Her music has taken her around the world, to perform with such notable musicians as Gerald Wilson, Sheila Escovedo, and Kenny Burrell. She was the lead trombonist for the Southern California High School Jazz All-Stars and was named Outstanding High School Trombonist at the 2002 Reno Jazz Festival. As a member of the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band, she performed on the festival's main stage with the Heath Brothers and toured Japan with Bill Berry. She received the Thurman Green Memorial Scholarship from the LA Jazz Society and three Herb Alpert Scholarships at UCLA. Robyn has played with various groups at many clubs around the LA area, for TV performances including the BET Awards, and on several recording sessions. Her primary teacher has been Les Benedict, and she has also received lessons from Ira Nepus, Jacques Voyemont, Steve Turre, and Conrad Herwig. Currently, she is completing her master's degree in biomedical engineering at UCLA, while remaining active in their jazz ensembles as an instrumentalist, composer, and arranger.
